Fonts

I have hundreds of fonts available on my computer and I use many of them in my design work. The font you're reading at the moment, however, is one called Arial. It's the most commonly used font on the internet. That's because almost every computer has it in its font collection. It's simple and easy to read even in small sizes. Here is a list of ten of the most common fonts, each displayed in the actual font:

  1. Arial (sans-serif)
  2. Comic Sans (cursive)
  3. Courier (monospace)
  4. Georgia (serif)
  5. Impact (san serif)
  6. Lucida Console (monospace)
  7. Lucida Sans Unicode (sans-serif)
  8. Palatino Linotype (serif)
  9. Tahoma (sans-serif)
  10. Times New Roman (serif)

All these fonts are probably displayed correctly on your screen. Note that Arial is a sans-serif font, meaning it doesn't have any curlycue things on the ends of the letters. Serifed fonts don't work quite as well on a computer screen. Monospaced fonts are displayed evenly spaced the way typewriters print.

On the other hand, there are many fonts that only a few people have on their computers. Here are a few that you may not have:

  1. Abrago Script
  2. Barbe Display Condensed
  3. Installation
  4. Mumbo Display
  5. Papyrus

Chances are, one or more of these fonts isn't displayed correctly on your screen. In that case, your computer uses your default font, which is probably one of those in the first list. When designing a website, it's best to use one of the common fonts as your basic text. Rare fonts are best used when designing logos and other images. Most of this site is designed in Arial, Tahoma, and Times New Roman.
