Gretsch New Yorker Mandolin

Mandolin

The most recent addition to my on-stage instrumentation is the Gretsch New Yorker mandolin pictured at right. I started playing mandolin in the studio a few years ago after my brother-in-law, Reed Ervin, generously lent me his Gold Tone. I learned enough about the instrument in playing it with friends to know that I would have to get a more stage-worthy instrument, with a built-in pick-up and adjustable neck. I revisited several of the most popular titles on my song list and recorded guitar parts so that I could bring mandolin into my act. I played it on stage for the first time in March, 2015, and so far it's gone quite well, adding a new, softer tonality to the sound of the band.
